One day visit with WFL mobile clinic

On February 6, the Wheels For Life (WFL) Mobile Clinic visited four Beijing foster homes. They are: 365 Morning Light Baby Home, New Hope Foundation, Angel Home and New Day Foster Home.

The first foster home we visited was 365 Morning Light Baby Home. The children there are mostly children with cerebral palsy. So, taking care of them is a bit difficult. In order to provide more care to the children, several of the headmaster’s family members joined this foster home. They support the children in rehabilitative exercises, help them take medicine, give them electrotherapy and so on. For these care givers, the moment when the children can walk their first steps or when they can eat by themselves, brings them great happiness. These are great achievements for them.

After that we went to the New Hope Foundation. This was founded by Dr. Joyce Hill and her husband Robin Hill in 2001. They have good relations with the people around, and their foundation is getting better every day. Here the children’s dormitory seems more international, each having a different theme color to be easily distinguished, while children also have large playing area. In addition to the good hardware facilities, software conditions are not bad either. The nursery governesses there are responsive, and there are also many volunteers from foreign countries to help. They teach the children to sing, play with them and so on.

Angel Home pays close attention to the relationship between the nursery governesses and their children. They do not hesitate to buy a high cost breathing machine for a child just to reduce the child’s sufferings. They try their best to let the children receive medical treatment when they are sick. The feelings between the nursery governesses and the children are extremely deep. When a child is admitted in hospital, the nursery governess would go and look after her. That child holds her nanny’s hand and wouldn’t let her leave. I believe that in this foster home, the connection between nursery governesses and children is extremely deep.

The nursery governesses at New Day Foster Home believe that it is essential to care for the children’s inner feelings. As there are children from several provinces around China, when they have to go back to their original orphanages, New Day will specially send people to accompany, in order to give the child a familiar atmosphere. When children are adopted, they also have nursery governesses who go along with the children in order to reduce the twists and turns in the middle and reduce the pain of separation.

Although these are four different foster homes, but after this visit, it is not hard to see that their first concern will always be children. There is no geographical division. For the children to get better, the staffs are willing to pay for everything. Healing brings hope!
