Oral Health Examination for Beijing Guang Ai School

On February 24, United Foundation for China’s Health(UFCH) organized an oral health examination for 43 students at Beijing Guang Ai School.

Beijing Guang Ai School is a non-profit non-governmental educational charity that helps children in need from all over the country. Although these children have experienced hardship at one time or another, their smiles do not have a trace of lingering gloom. The children were very warm to the volunteers, and their eagerness to communicate and be cared for was touching and heart-breaking. When UFCH learned about the current situation of the school and the children, the first reaction was to arrange health check-ups for them as soon as possible. The oldest of these children was 15 years old, and the health check-ups could not be overlooked.

The volunteer doctor for the oral examination is Dr. He from the dental clinic of Beijing United Family Hospital. Although the children were a little nervous at their first oral exam, they all relaxed when faced with such a gentle dentist.

Outside the classroom, the children waiting to be examined crowded around the volunteer. ” Where are you from?” “I want to be a policeman in the future.” “Can this camera take the picture of the birds on the tree?” – The children kept asking questions and they really enjoyed the volunteers’ visit.

After the oral examination, all the kids went into the classroom orderly and started to learn the daily oral care. With Dr. He’s detailed introduction, the children learned how to brush their teeth properly, why teeth hurt and what should do, and the importance of maintaining oral health.

Through this examination, each child was found to have some dental problems. Fortunately, most of these problems can be solved by paying attention to oral care. For children with serious oral problems, UFCH will follow up with their further treatment.

Special thanks to the Beijing United Family Hospital Dental Clinic and 3M for their great support to this pro bono activity! And thanks to Beijing Guang Ai School for giving us the opportunity to help these lovely children.
