03 Tong Tong
Tong Tong suffers from congenital cleft lip and palate, but fortunately, after being adopted by the new family, she has received the family’s full love. Since 2018, UFCH has begun to continuously assist Tong Tong with her health check-ups, vaccines, and other medical needs. Due to the incomplete closure of the palatine and pharynx, Tong Tong cannot speak clearly.
In 2023, with the help of UFCH, Tong Tong underwent pharyngeal shaping surgery at Beijing United Family Hospital, and at the same time, combined with language training, Tong Tong’s language ability has been significantly improved. This year, due to middle ear inflammation, her right eardrum was perforated. After communicating with the foundation, the mother took Tong Tong to the Shanghai United Family Hospital (Pudong) to complete the tympanic membrane perforation and tube placement surgery. After the surgery, Tong Tong was much more at ease, and her ears were finally stopped bothering her.
